Contemporary debates on values are greatly influenced by identity and cultural heritage, as well as their appropriation or rejection. The contributions in this volume address this topic, which is characterised by uncertain relationships, ambiguities, and conflicts. Interdisciplinary cultural-theoretical analyses focus on buildings, historical sites, and other mainly material traditions. Who considers themselves their heirs? Which affirmative concepts of the formation of national, social and political groups are utilised in the politics of history and identity associated with these objects? How can constructions of identity based on cultural heritage be analysed and critically historicised in terms of their inclusive and exclusive effects? The volume presents selected positions on the topic in 18 essays.
