SchloR is a collective work and living community project. Based on the principle of the German Mietshäuser Syndikat ( housing syndicate), a group acquired this property, renovated the existing circus hall, added another story to the workshop building, and constructed a residential wing using wood and clay.
The SchloR project is not only being awarded a “special prize” – thehttps://www.proholz.at/wienwood – because it uses wood in a particularly innovative way in its construction. Also, it is about a different way of thinking that is taking the future of living and building firmly into its own hands.
One of the great advantages of wood, namely its potential for self-construction, is intelligently channeled into the processes of a collective in which co-determination and professional design go hand in hand. The award recognizes the courage and commitment of a group that questions the framework conditions of our current life and work in a lively research laboratory. Using fair, collaborative, and integrative methods, the craftsmanship and beauty of wood is rediscovered and made sustainable for the future.
